TEACHING PIECES, COLLECTIONS, and INSTRUCTION BOOKS:
The following original beginning harp material written by William Lovelace is available from most major harp music retailers:
  • The First Day of Spring (a collection of three pieces that explore the use of triads)
  • "Quatre-Vingt-Six" (practices 2nd and 3rd fingers playing harmonic intervals)
  • "The Gypsy Rover" (based on the Anglo-American Folk Tune, and arranged in the style of Marcel Grandjany's "Two French Folk Songs")
  • "Das Tanzende Bachlein" (incorporates mixed meter and 20th c. harmony)
  • Beginning at the Harp Vol. 2 (written by Lucien Thomson and William Lovelace in the late 1980's, this book completes Thomson's original Beginning at the Harp Vol 1, published in the 1960's, and uses song material that Thomson collected throughout his entire teaching career)

William has also composed dozens of harp arrangements for beginning orchestra students in the Maryville City Schools.  William began working with the school district in Maryville in 1996.  Composers of string orchestra music for Intermediate and Middle School Orchestras rarely include harp parts, so each semester for over 20 years, William has created "obligato" orchestra parts so that the harp students can perform as part of the orchestra ensembles.

William also arranges folk music regularly for the Folk Harpers of East Tennessee harp circle.  (A collection of folk harp arrangements is scheduled to be released for purchase soon.)
